Which Used Toyota Sedan Is Best for You?

This question is probably easier to answer than you might think. All it takes is a little bit of consideration to figure out what you need in your next car. When it comes to finding the right used Toyota for sale, you have some amazing options to choose from, even if you’re solely interested in a sedan. Toyota has been making some of the best cars on the road for many decades, leaving you with a huge variety to explore and consider as you shop for a pre-owned sedan that you’ll love driving. Let’s check out three of our favorite models when looking for a used sedan. We’ll highlight a couple of model years for each one that you should keep in mind as you shop for a car that you’ll enjoy for many years to come.

Toyota Corolla: Small and Stylish Functionality

If something on the smaller side is the right fit for you, the Toyota Corolla must be at the top of your list when looking for a used sedan. First released in the 1960s, the Corolla became a worldwide success and helped launch Toyota into its position of popularity in the auto industry. It has maintained this by keeping models like the Corolla as sporty and reliable as possible. Despite its small size, this is still a four-door sedan that is surprisingly spacious inside. It gives you plenty of room for friends and family while providing a nimble ride that is fun on the road without becoming overbearing.

Since this car has been around for so long, you’ll find a lot of them out there when looking at used models. Unless you're a collector, we don’t suggest something from the previous century. The eleventh generation of the Corolla is about as far back as you’ll want to go, which launched with the 2014 model year and ran through 2019. You’re even better off going with a Corolla from 2020 or later, which kicked off the twelfth generation. An update and refresh for the 2023 model year makes that an especially great place to start as you look for a used Corolla that will have excellent features and great performance.

Toyota Camry: Midsize and Modern Design

Following the success of the Corolla, Toyota developed more great vehicles. For something a bit larger, the Toyota Camry is the perfect choice, providing a midsize design and great features throughout. It launched in the early 1980s as a compact car, but has always been a larger option than the Corolla. It grew into a midsize sedan thanks to redesigns and updates in the 1990s. Since then, it has remained a popular option for those of us who enjoy everything a comfortable and stylish car brings to the road.

As you’re looking at different pre-owned Camry models, you have a number of great options available to you, though certain model years are particularly worth watching for. The eighth-generation Camry kicked off with the 2018 model year, making that an excellent place to start as you’re looking at different pre-owned cars. We should note that an update for the 2020 model added a performance-focused TRD trim that’s worth looking for if you want an exhilarating drive each day. An all-new generation just launched with the 2025 Camry, so keep that in mind as you’re looking at used models if you’re interested in the latest bells and whistles.

Toyota Avalon: Large and Remarkably Capable

Finally, as you’re considering different used Toyota sedans, the Avalon should be at the top of your list if you’re interested in a larger, more spacious model. First launched for the 1995 model year, the Avalon can be considered either a full-size or midsize sedan, depending on how you look at it. Either way, it’s bigger than the other two models and designed to deliver impressive performance and great overall functionality. The result is a sedan with an incredibly spacious interior that’s perfect if you tend to have other adults ride along with you, since they’ll have more room to stretch out.

The 2019 model is a great place to start with the Avalon since it began this sedan’s fifth generation. You can find plenty of great cars prior to that, however, especially if you go with something from 2016 or later, when the fourth generation received an update and facelift. Toyota discontinued the Avalon in the U.S. after the 2022 model year, although it is still sold in China. It was replaced by the Crown in Toyota’s sedan lineup, so if you want something from 2023 or later, then check out a pre-owned Toyota Crown to get a spacious and reliable full-size car that’s even more comfortable than the Avalon.
