It’s hard to keep all the automakers straight these days. Every few years at least one familiar brand gets bought out, switches owners, or goes independent. Since a few automakers own most of the brands out there, the answer is hardly straightforward, but this post will tackle the state of the Chrysler family.
Fiat Chrysler Automobiles
At the time of this writing, in 2020, one of the biggest players in the automotive world is the Fiat Chrysler Automobiles group (FCA). FCA owns both of its namesake auto brands, and all the car manufacturers in each of those families. In North America, this mostly means the Chrysler group: Chrysler, Dodge, Jeep, and Ram.
Chrysler Cars and Minivans
One of the oldest automakers in US history, Chrysler is most famous in recent years for the Chrysler Pacifica minivan. The Chrysler 300 line continues to run into the 2020 model year, but its future remains uncertain.
Dodge Performance Cars
Another one of the oldest automakers in the US, Dodge has long belonged to Chrysler. Dodge has been adapted to focus on performance vehicles in recent years. The Dodge Challenger and revived Dodge Charger lead the pack, but the Dodge Durango SUV takes advantage of the current craze over smaller SUVs.
Jeep Crossovers and SUVs
Jeep is essential to the survival of the FCA group. It produces SUVs primarily, feeding a market that seems to have no end to its appetite for crossovers and larger SUVs. Classic nameplates like the Wrangler and Grand Cherokee continue to sell well beside newer names like the Jeep Compass and Jeep Renegade.
Ram is a strange story in the automotive world. In recent years it stopped being just the pickup truck arm of Dodge to set out on its own. After Fiat bought the Chrysler group, Ram took off and the Ram 1500 and 2500 suddenly become one of the most popular pickup trucks in the US.
Other Brands Owned by Fiat
The Italian automaker also owns a whole family of European automakers. These include the Abarth racing cars, Alfa Romeo luxury cars, Lancia, Maserati luxury cars, and the Mopar automobile parts company.
Fiat Chrysler Automobiles at Automax
You will find no shortage of Ram trucks and Jeep SUVs in our stock of pre-owned vehicles. Both are popular and many owners sell their trucks or SUVs after a couple of years to get the latest model, so we usually have some lightly used models of both.
