Homemade Chili Recipe for Autumn Nights

Fall is a time for warm and cozy dinners you can enjoy as the sun sets earlier in the day. Classic soups like chicken noodle, beef stew, and pumpkin soup are easy cozy meals, but there is another soup that can keep you feeling warm no matter how cold it gets outside. Chili is the perfect autumn soup. You can have it with beans, without beans, vegan or meaty. Here is a basic recipe you can use to make a tasty homemade beef, pork, and bean chili.


  • 1 lb ground beef
  • 1 lb ground pork
  • 15 oz can of chili beans
  • 15 oz can of pinto beans
  • ¼ cup cornmeal
  • 1 tbsp chopped garlic
  • 8-oz tomato sauce
  • 2 tbsp chili powder
  • 2 tsp ground cumin
  • 1 tsp ground Mexican oregano
  • 1 tsp salt
  • ½ teaspoon chipotle powder
  • ¼ teaspoon cinnamon
  • Shredded cheese for serving

Brown beef and pork in a pot. Drain excess grease and add garlic, tomato sauce, spices, and stir to combine. Simmer everything together for one hour on low heat, covered. If the mixture becomes dry, feel free to add more water, but no more than ¼ cup at a time. After simmering, uncover, and slowly mix corn flour into chili. Adjust corn flour to achieve the desired thickness. Add beans and stir lightly before simmering 10 more minutes. Enjoy with melted cheddar cheese.
