Should You Buy a Chevy, Ford, or Ram Pickup Truck?

The main brands many consider to be the optimal pickup truck brands are Chevrolet, Ford, and Ram. Now, don’t panic that we’re leaving out some other popular trucks, such as the Nissan and Toyota models, but we’ll focus on the American made pickups today. Looking at their similar builds, which pickup truck model do you want? Do you want a Chevy, Ford, or Ram pickup truck?

Keep in mind, many of the following specification information below for each model can vary greatly with choice of trim, bed, cab, engine option, drivetrain, tires, and more customizable features. The information listed below is seen as the standard, baseline options of each build.

2019 Chevrolet Silverado 1500

The Chevy Silverado went under a redesign for its 2019 model, offering a flurry of aesthetic and mechanical changes inside and out.

The standard engine equipped is a 4.3L EcoTec3 V6 engine that produces up to 285 horsepower and 305 lb-ft of torque. Additional V8 engine upgrade options are available. The standard transmission is a 6-speed automatic, the standard drivetrain is rear-wheel drive, and standard towing capacity is roughly 10,000 lbs.

The 2019 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 has a starting MSRP of $28,300.

Overall, the standard 2019 Ford F-150 matches up pretty evenly to the 2019 Chevy Silverado.

The baseline engine of the 2019 Ford F-150 is a 3.3L V6 engine that produces up to 290 horsepower and 265 lb-ft of torque. Additionally, there is a more powerful and yet more fuel efficient 2.7L V6 engine option, as well as an incredibly robust 5L V8 engine option with up to 4,000 lb-ft of torque!

Standard towing is a bit less than the 2019 Silverado, at 9,100 lbs to its 9,800 lbs. However, other engine options bump towing up to a 12,700 or 13,200 lb towing capacity.

Lastly, like the Silverado, the 2019 Ford F-150 has standard rear-wheel drive and a 6-speed automatic transmission.

The 2019 Ford F-150 has a starting MSRP of $28,155.

Like the 2019 Chevy Silverado, the 2019 Ram 1500 is brand-new.

The 2019 Ram 1500 has a 3.6L V6 engine that has more power than either the F-150’s or the Silverado’s baseline engines. It has a power output of 305 horsepower and 269 lb-ft of torque. Obviously, like the others mentioned, the 2019 Ram 1500 has multiple engine options. Here, that would be a 5.7L V8 engine with 395 horsepower and 410 lb-ft of torque.

Additionally, standard towing capacity is roughly around 11,000 lbs.

The 2019 Ram 1500 has a starting MSRP of $31,795.
